Official Resumption of Municipal Services

Following the Easter long weekend, the City of Gold Coast has confirmed that all municipal services have returned to standard operating schedules as of Tuesday, 7 April 2026. This includes the reopening of all city library branches and community centers, which were closed from Good Friday through Easter Monday. Residents may now access in-person borrowing, meeting room bookings, and customer service desks during their regular Tuesday hours. Furthermore, Gold Coast Recreation & Sport Inc has announced that all scheduled programs and community support initiatives have resumed today.

Major Road and Transport Disruptions

Significant infrastructure projects continue to impact travel times across the Gold Coast. Motorists are advised of the following active notices:

  • Gold Coast Highway (Miami to Burleigh): Ongoing construction for Light Rail Stage 3 has necessitated lane reductions. The highway is restricted to a single lane in both directions between Dawn Parade and George Street East. A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit remains in effect for the safety of workers and pedestrians.
  • Coomera & Helensvale: The Ridgevale Drive bridge overpass remains fully closed as part of the 2026 bridge replacement program. Motorists are directed to use the Smith Street Motorway as the primary detour route.
  • Arundel: The eastbound access ramp to Smith Street from the Smith Street Motorway is currently closed for planned road rehabilitation.
  • Suburban Access: Full road closures remain in place at Turpin Road in Labrador (between First and Fourth Avenue) and Berrigans Road in Mudgeeraba (between Gold Coast-Springbrook Road and Mark Way) due to local works.
  • Public Transport: Translink has confirmed that several bus stops along the Gold Coast Highway, including those at Second Avenue and near Burleigh Heads Primary School, remain closed or relocated to temporary sites due to ongoing highway upgrades.

Parks and Environmental Alerts

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service has updated its alerts for the Gold Coast region. Planned maintenance works are currently underway on walking tracks within Springbrook National Park, specifically affecting portions of the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk. Visitors should adhere to all directional signage. Additionally, the Telstra Break within Wickham National Park remains closed for maintenance through mid-year. Residents are also reminded to check the status of local sports fields, as maintenance schedules may be adjusted following the holiday period.

Community and Sporting Events

The Gold Coast Libraries April School Holiday Program is active today, Tuesday, 7 April, offering free workshops and activities for students across the city. Meanwhile, the Australian Open Swimming Championships continue at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Southport. High traffic volume is expected around the Broadwater Parklands precinct throughout the day as athletes and spectators arrive for the morning and evening sessions.
