Official Council Committee Sessions

The City of Gold Coast has scheduled two key committee meetings for Thursday, 19 March 2026. These sessions are vital for the progression of local policy and community initiatives. Residents are invited to observe the following proceedings:

  • Economy, Tourism & Events (ET&E) Committee

The committee will convene to discuss upcoming regional events and tourism strategies aimed at bolstering the local economy. The meeting serves as a primary platform for reviewing major event applications and tourism infrastructure projects.

  • Lifestyle, Environment, Heritage & Resilience (LEH&R) Committee

This session will focus on environmental protection policies, heritage preservation, and the city’s ongoing resilience planning against natural hazards. Discussions will include updates on local conservation programs and community lifestyle enhancements.

Both meetings are held at the Civic Chamber located at 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise. Public gallery seating is available, and sessions will be live-streamed via the City’s official website.

Essential Service and Water Infrastructure Updates

A planned water service interruption in Southport is scheduled to conclude in the early hours of Thursday, 19 March 2026. The interruption, affecting properties near 70 Marine Parade, began late Wednesday evening to facilitate a critical meter replacement (Reference: 1001360590). Normal water pressure is expected to be fully restored by 2:00 AM. Residents experiencing any lingering discolouration are advised to run their cold-water tap furthest from the meter for several minutes until the water runs clear.

Major Transport and Road Disruptions

Several major infrastructure projects continue to impact traffic flow across the region. Motorists should plan for delays in the following zones on Thursday:

  • Mermaid Beach: A temporary road closure and works zone will be active at 19 Venice Street from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM to facilitate construction activities.
  • Gold Coast Highway (Light Rail Stage 3): Lane reductions remain in place between Miami and Burleigh Heads. A strict 40km/h speed limit is enforced from Dawn Parade to West Burleigh Road.
  • Coomera Connector: The Ridgevale Drive bridge overpass remains fully closed for bridge replacement. Detours are in place via the Smith Street Motorway.
  • Gold Coast-Springbrook Road: Stop/slow traffic control is active across 28 sites due to ongoing landslip remediation.

Public Health and Safety Advisories

Queensland Health continues to urge Gold Coast residents to maintain vigilance regarding communicable diseases. Authorities have confirmed the continued community circulation of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Measles. Residents are encouraged to verify their vaccination status and consult a medical professional if symptoms such as a persistent cough or high fever develop. Additionally, Elanora Linkage Park remains fully closed to the public as crews carry out extensive landslip repairs and stormwater upgrades, with the site expected to remain off-limits until mid-2026.

Public Tender Deadlines

Contractors and interested parties are reminded that the public tender for the Inspection and Maintenance of Urban Lakes (LG314/690/26/016) is scheduled to close at 11:00 AM on Thursday, 19 March 2026. All submissions must be finalized through the VendorPanel portal prior to the deadline.
