Official City Roundup: Infrastructure and Public Safety Information

The City of Gold Coast and regional health authorities have issued several public notices and advisories effective for Friday, 20 March 2026. Residents and visitors are encouraged to review the following updates regarding roadwork, utility maintenance, and public health to ensure safety and minimize travel delays.

Major Road and Transport Disruptions

Significant construction activity remains active across the Gold Coast. Commuters are advised to plan for additional travel time in the following areas:

  • Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3: Intensive works continue between Miami and Burleigh Heads. The Gold Coast Highway is restricted to a single lane in both directions from Dawn Parade to West Burleigh Road. A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit is in effect through this corridor.
  • Hinterland Remediation: Reconstruction and landslip repairs are active at 28 separate sites along the Gold Coast-Springbrook Road. Stop/slow traffic control is in place between Neranwood and Pine Creek Road; motorists should expect intermittent delays of up to 10 minutes per site.
  • Coomera Connector (Stage 1): The bridge overpass at Ridgevale Drive remains fully closed as part of the 2026 bridge replacement program. Detours are active via the Smith Street Motorway.
  • Mudgeeraba Roadworks: Berrigans Road is closed to through traffic between Gold Coast Springbrook Road and Mark Way for essential pavement rehabilitation.

Public Health and Environmental Advisories

Queensland Health has confirmed the ongoing community circulation of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Measles. Authorities strongly recommend that residents verify their vaccination status. If symptoms such as a high fever or persistent cough develop, please contact health services by phone before visiting a clinic in person.

Additionally, a Flood Watch remains active for Gold Coast rivers and creeks. Following recent heavy rainfall, the City advises against swimming in coastal beaches for at least 24 hours and in rivers or estuaries for at least three days due to increased stormwater runoff and potential bacterial contamination. Specialized teams are also conducting mosquito management treatments in salt marsh environments to mitigate breeding risks.

Utility and Service Maintenance

An unplanned recycled water interruption is scheduled to conclude at 3:30 PM on Friday, 20 March. This repair affects the Elanora and Tugun recycled water supply zones, including the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and the Betty Diamond Sports Complex. Standard water services remain unaffected.

Upcoming Community Events

Residents should note increased activity near the Broadwater and coastal precincts due to the School Sport Australia Aquathlon and Triathlon Championships and the Australian WPGA Championship, both commencing today. While primary road closures for the T100 Triathlon do not begin until Saturday, early site preparation may impact parking near the Broadwater Parklands.
