Gold Coast City Council Convenes to Ratify Major Infrastructure and Community Service Upgrades

Gold Coast City Council Meets to Finalise Key Service Expansions
Today, Tuesday, 10 March 2026, the City of Gold Coast is holding a Full Council meeting at the Civic Chambers in Bundall. The session is primarily focused on the formal ratification of recommendations made by the city’s standing committees earlier this month, covering a wide range of infrastructure, transport, and community service initiatives as part of the 2026 legislative agenda.
A major highlight of today’s agenda is the proposed expansion of the Council Cab service. Following discussions by the Transport and Infrastructure Committee, councillors are set to vote on extending this vital transport option to the growing suburbs of Bonogin and Willow Vale. The expansion is designed to provide greater mobility for elderly residents and those with disabilities who live outside the current service zones. During committee deliberations, officials noted the importance of ensuring value for money and reliable service levels as the city administration seeks to enter into new procurement contracts for these areas.
Infrastructure and Public Safety Initiatives
The Council is also scheduled to address several critical infrastructure and public safety projects that have been under review. Key items include:
- The formal response to a community petition regarding safety enhancements at the intersection of Cottesloe Drive and Rio Vista Boulevard.
- Future planning and development strategies for the two-level Bruce Bishop Carpark in Surfers Paradise.
- Updates to the city’s Waste Management Plan, specifically addressing the efficiency of bin collection schedules and the potential for earlier Saturday service start times to mitigate traffic congestion.
- Progress reports on waste network changes in the Springbrook and Numinbah Valley regions.
Major Investment in Women’s Sporting Facilities
Today’s session follows a significant announcement by Mayor Tom Tate regarding the city's commitment to modernising community infrastructure. Yesterday, the Mayor unveiled a $10 million program dedicated to delivering modular female changeroom facilities at local sporting clubs across the Gold Coast. This investment comes in response to data showing that female participation in sport has grown by nearly 50 percent in the region since 2021.
The first stage of the rollout will benefit clubs in Currumbin, Coomera, Robina, and Palm Beach. Mayor Tate emphasized that providing dedicated facilities for female athletes is a priority in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, ensuring that the city’s infrastructure keeps pace with the rapid growth in women’s AFL, football, and rugby.
The Full Council meeting is open to the public for viewing from the gallery and is being live-streamed via the City’s official digital channels. Decisions made during today's session will set the trajectory for several major suburban projects throughout the remainder of the financial year.
