Grey Skies and Passing Showers: A Damp Saturday for the Gold Coast

Outlook for Saturday, 28 February 2026

As we reach the final day of February, the Gold Coast is bracing for a humid and overcast Saturday. The transition from summer to autumn is making its presence felt with persistent cloud cover and intermittent light rain across the region. While the city will avoid the heavy deluges currently impacting northern and central parts of the state, residents should keep their umbrellas handy for scattered showers throughout the day.

Morning Forecast: A Damp and Misty Start

The day is expected to begin with a minimum temperature of 21°C. Morning commuters and early risers can expect overcast conditions with a 35% chance of light rain. Early predictions suggest approximately 1.1mm of precipitation during the morning hours, creating a misty and damp atmosphere across the coastline. Humidity will be exceptionally high, peaking at nearly 90%, which may make the early hours feel significantly warmer and stickier than the thermometer suggests.

Afternoon Predictions: Humid Peaks and Heavy Cloud

By midday, the mercury is set to rise toward a maximum of 26°C to 28°C. Despite the seasonal warmth, sunshine will be limited as the "mostly cloudy" trend continues across the Gold Coast. There is a continued risk of passing showers, though rainfall totals are expected to remain relatively low during the afternoon peak. For those heading outdoors, the high humidity will be the defining feature of the day. While the local winds are expected to remain a gentle breeze, they will offer little relief from the tropical-like moisture hanging over the suburbs.

Evening and Overnight: Settling into the Clouds

As the sun sets on the final Saturday of the summer season, temperatures will gradually dip back toward 23°C. The chance of rain decreases slightly to 25% after dark, but the thick cloud cover is expected to persist well into the night. It will be a temperate and overcast evening, as the coastal air remains heavy with moisture. Total daily rainfall for the 24-hour period is estimated to reach up to 7.5mm in some pockets of the coast, though much of this is anticipated to fall in light, sporadic bursts.

Marine Outlook and Safety Information

For boaters and beachgoers, the sea temperature remains a very warm 26°C. While there are currently no severe weather or strong wind warnings specifically issued for Gold Coast local waters today, the Bureau of Meteorology has maintained strong wind alerts for regions further north, including the K'gari Coast and Hervey Bay. Locally, conditions will remain stable but grey. Swimmers should remain cautious of the high humidity and UV levels, which can still be high under cloud cover, and are reminded to always swim between the red and yellow flags.
