Official City Roundup: Infrastructure Updates and Public Health Notices for March 13

Roads and Infrastructure Impacts

The City of Gold Coast and the Department of Transport and Main Roads have multiple major infrastructure projects impacting travel across the region this Friday, 13 March 2026. Commuters should allow for extra travel time in the following priority zones:

  • Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3: Significant construction activity remains intensive between Miami and Burleigh Heads. The Gold Coast Highway is restricted to a single lane in both directions from Dawn Parade to West Burleigh Road. A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit is in effect through the construction corridor.
  • Coomera Connector (Stage 1): The bridge overpass at Ridgevale Drive remains fully closed as part of the 2026 bridge replacement program. Motorists are advised to follow posted detours via the Smith Street Motorway.
  • Mudgeeraba Road Rehabilitation: Berrigans Road remains under a full closure between Gold Coast Springbrook Road and Mark Way for essential pavement works. Local traffic should utilize Mark Way for access.
  • Gold Coast-Springbrook Road: Remediation works continue across 28 sites following recent weather events. Residents should expect stop/slow traffic control between Neranwood and Pine Creek Road.

Public Health and Environmental Alerts

Health authorities and the City have issued the following advisories active for the end of the week:

  • Communicable Disease Vigilance: Queensland Health reminds residents that Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Measles are currently circulating. Individuals are encouraged to verify their vaccination status. If you develop a red, spotty rash or persistent cough, contact 13-HEALTH before visiting a clinic.
  • Stormwater and Swimming Advisory: Due to recent heavy rainfall, the City advises against swimming in beaches for one day, and in rivers or estuaries for at least three days, following significant rain events. Stormwater runoff can impact water quality and increase the risk of illness.
  • Mosquito Management Program: Specialized teams are conducting surveillance and treatment in salt marsh environments and low-lying habitats. Property owners are urged to empty any containers of standing water to reduce breeding sites.

Recreation and Community Consultations

Updates regarding local facilities and ongoing public feedback periods include:

  • Park Closures: Elanora Linkage Park remains fully closed to the public as crews continue critical landslip repairs and stormwater upgrades. These works are expected to persist through mid-2026.
  • Animal Control Area Register: The formal feedback period for the 2026 Animal Control Area Register is closing soon. Residents have until Monday, 16 March 2026, to submit comments regarding proposed dog off-leash zones and prohibited areas.
  • Runaway Bay Water Works: A planned water interruption in Runaway Bay is scheduled to conclude at 4:00 AM on Friday morning. Residents may experience temporary discolouration; it is recommended to run external taps until the water is clear before use.
