Official City Roundup: Major Transit Disruptions and Public Health Advisories for Sunday, 15 March

Official City Notice: Essential Service Updates and Public Safety Information
The City of Gold Coast and regional health authorities have issued several critical public notices and advisories effective for Sunday, 15 March 2026. Residents and visitors are urged to review the following infrastructure updates, health alerts, and community consultation deadlines to ensure a safe and informed weekend.
Public Health and Environmental Alerts
Queensland Health continues to advise Gold Coast residents of increased community transmission of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Measles. Authorities strongly recommend that all individuals verify their vaccination status and ensure boosters are up to date, particularly for those in contact with infants or vulnerable populations. If you exhibit symptoms such as a high fever or a persistent cough, please contact 13-HEALTH for advice before visiting a medical clinic in person.
Following recent rainfall events, a persistent stormwater advisory remains in place. The City recommends against swimming in coastal beaches for at least 24 hours, and in rivers, lakes, or estuaries for up to three days following significant rain. Elevated bacterial levels in runoff can increase the risk of illness. Additionally, the City has intensified its mosquito management program in salt marsh and low-lying environments. Property owners are requested to assist by removing any standing water from containers or gutters to mitigate breeding risks.
Major Transport and Infrastructure Disruptions
Significant disruptions to public transport and major road corridors will be in effect throughout Sunday, 15 March. Commuters are advised to allow for substantial additional travel time in the following areas:
- Gold Coast Rail Line: Essential track maintenance continues today. Rail replacement buses are operating in both directions between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes stations. All Airtrain services are similarly affected. Please allow up to 60 minutes of additional travel time and check local station signage for bus stop locations.
- Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3: Construction activity remains intensive between Miami and Burleigh Heads. The Gold Coast Highway is restricted to a single lane in both directions from Dawn Parade to West Burleigh Road. A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit is active through the construction zone.
- Mudgeeraba Road Rehabilitation: Berrigans Road remains under a full closure between Gold Coast Springbrook Road and Mark Way for pavement reconstruction. Local detours are currently in place.
- Hinterland Remediation: Major works continue at 28 sites along the Gold Coast-Springbrook Road. Motorists should expect stop/slow traffic control and potential delays of up to 15 minutes between Neranwood and Pine Creek Road.
Public Facilities and Community Consultation
Residents are reminded that Elanora Linkage Park remains fully closed to the public as crews conduct critical landslip repairs and stormwater upgrades. These safety works are scheduled to continue through mid-year. Furthermore, the formal feedback period for the 2026 Animal Control Area Register closes tomorrow, Monday, 16 March. Sunday represents the final full day for residents to submit comments regarding proposed dog off-leash zones and animal-prohibited areas via the City’s online consultation portal.
