Public Notice: Essential City Infrastructure and Health Updates

Public Health Alert: Communicable Disease Vigilance

Health officials have confirmed that Pertussis (Whooping Cough) continues to circulate within the Gold Coast community. Residents are urged to ensure their vaccinations and boosters are up to date, particularly those in close contact with infants or pregnant women. Additionally, following recent confirmed regional cases of measles, the public is advised to monitor for symptoms including high fever, cough, runny nose, and a red spotty rash. If you suspect exposure, please contact your general practitioner or call 13-HEALTH for advice before attending a clinic in person to prevent further transmission.

Environmental Health: Mosquito Management

Following recent heavy rainfall and favorable environmental conditions, the City has intensified its mosquito control operations. Specialized teams are currently conducting surveillance and treatment focusing on salt marsh environments and low-lying habitats. Residents are encouraged to assist by eliminating standing water in containers, gutters, and pot plant saucers on their private properties to reduce potential breeding sites.

Transport and Infrastructure: Road Closures

Major construction milestones for the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 continue to impact the Burleigh Heads precinct. Motorists are advised that the Gold Coast Highway is restricted to a single lane in both directions between Dawn Parade and West Burleigh Road to facilitate essential works. Several bus stops along this corridor, including stops at Third Avenue and Anzac Parade, will remain closed through April 2026.

In the hinterland, Berrigans Road in Mudgeeraba remains under a full closure between Gold Coast Springbrook Road and Mark Way for urgent pavement rehabilitation. Additionally, motorists should note that Hardys Road and sections of Mount Cougal Road remain restricted due to residual damage from previous weather events. Please follow all onsite signage and allow extra travel time.

Planning and Development: Public Notification

A formal public notification period commences today, Tuesday, 3 March 2026, for a proposed multiple dwelling development (3 units) located in Broadbeach Waters (Application MCU/2025/530). Interested parties may view the application and associated plans through the City’s PD Online portal. Properly made submissions regarding this Material Change of Use will be accepted until the conclusion of the comment period on 23 March 2026.
