Tuesday Morning Traffic Outlook

Commuters across the Gold Coast should prepare for a mix of infrastructure-related delays and residual road closures following recent weather events. While the major M1 Pacific Motorway widening projects were largely completed late last year, significant local activity—specifically regarding the Light Rail Stage 3 construction and recent heavy rainfall—continues to dictate travel times for those moving between the southern and central suburbs this Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

Major Coastal Delays: Light Rail Stage 3

The most significant impact for coastal commuters remains the ongoing construction of the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3. Motorists traveling through Miami and Burleigh Heads are advised to allow for an additional 15 to 20 minutes of travel time. Key conditions include:

  • Single-Lane Restrictions: The Gold Coast Highway remains reduced to a single lane in both directions between Dawn Parade in Miami and West Burleigh Road in Burleigh Heads.
  • Northbound Narrowing: A specific single-lane restriction is in place northbound between Tweed Street and West Burleigh Road. These arrangements are expected to remain until early April 2026.
  • Speed Limits: A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit is in effect through the construction zones to ensure the safety of workers and pedestrians.

Hinterland and Local Road Closures

Recovery from recent heavy rainfall continues, with several key arterial and local roads remaining closed or restricted due to flash flooding and surface damage. As of Tuesday morning, the following locations are of primary concern:

  • Mudgeeraba & Bonogin: Hardys Road remains closed to all traffic between Bonogin Road and Glenmore Drive. Berrigans Road also remains under a full closure.
  • Reedy Creek: Old Coach Road is inundated and closed between Tallebudgera Creek Road and Kingsmore Boulevard.
  • Tallebudgera Valley: Mount Cougal Road is closed at the end section due to recent flash flooding.
  • Helensvale: Buckler Drive remains closed between Cyan Street and the Town Centre Drive roundabout due to planned bridge works.

M1 Motorway and Smith Street

Traffic on the M1 Pacific Motorway is generally flowing at speed, though motorists should be cautious of surface water in low-lying sections near the Tallebudgera and Currumbin interchanges. Additionally, an eastbound access ramp to Smith Street from the Smith Street Motorway in Arundel is subject to changed traffic conditions. Drivers heading south should note that while the Tugun Bypass is open, intermittent maintenance at Exit 95 (Tugun Currumbin Road) may cause minor merging delays.

Public Transport Update

Regular rail services on the Gold Coast Line have resumed following the weekend track maintenance. Trains are currently operating on a normal Tuesday schedule between Varsity Lakes and Brisbane. However, commuters using the bus network in Miami and Burleigh Heads should remember that stops at Hythe Street, Second Avenue, and Third Avenue remain closed due to light rail works; temporary stops are located at Riviera Road and nearby intersections.
