Public Health Alert: Measles Monitoring Remains Active

The Gold Coast Public Health Unit has issued a formal reminder for residents and visitors to remain vigilant for symptoms of measles. This advisory follows confirmed infectious exposures at high-traffic locations including Robina Town Centre, Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre, and the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Benowa during late March. The monitoring period for these potential exposures remains active through mid-April 2026. Residents who visited these sites should monitor for a high fever, cough, and a characteristic red spotty rash. Health officials advise anyone developing symptoms to contact their medical provider via telephone before arriving at a clinic to prevent further community transmission.

Infrastructure and Road Transport Updates

Significant infrastructure projects continue to impact travel times across the coastal corridor. As part of the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 commissioning, the Gold Coast Highway remains reduced to a single lane in both directions between Dawn Parade in Miami and George Street East in Burleigh Heads. A strictly enforced 40km/h work zone speed limit is in effect while crews perform finishing works on the track slab and overhead wiring. Commuters are encouraged to use Bermuda Street as a primary alternative for north-south travel to avoid peak-hour bottlenecks.

  • Ridgevale Drive Bridge: The bridge overpass remains fully closed to all traffic as part of the 2026 bridge replacement program. Detours are in place via the Smith Street Motorway.
  • Suburban Closures: Full road closures are active on Turpin Road in Labrador (between First and Fourth Avenue) and Berrigans Road in Mudgeeraba (between Gold Coast-Springbrook Road and Mark Way) due to essential pavement rehabilitation.
  • Public Transport: Translink confirms that bus stops at Burleigh Heads Primary School and Third Avenue remain closed. Temporary stops have been established near The Esplanade and McDonald's for routes 700 and 765.

Water Service Notice: Helensvale Maintenance

The City of Gold Coast is currently undertaking a major water main replacement along the bridge section of Helensvale Road. Planned works are scheduled between Dalley Park Drive and Monterey Keys Drive through Sunday, 12 April 2026. Residents in the area may experience increased noise during night works and potential pressure fluctuations. Temporary traffic control is on-site to facilitate these essential utility upgrades.

Community and School Holiday Programs

During the current school holiday period, the City is hosting several official programs for families. Gold Coast Libraries are running the "Peter Rabbit" holiday series across various branches, featuring hands-on creative workshops for children aged 6 to 12. Additionally, the Gold Coast Recreation Precinct continues its supervised outdoor adventure program through April 14, offering activities such as high ropes, canoeing, and traditional games. Bookings for these municipal programs are recommended as capacity is limited.
