Transport and Infrastructure Updates

The City of Gold Coast and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) are advising residents of significant infrastructure works active today, Monday, 9 February 2026. These projects are part of the ongoing commitment to upgrading the city’s transport network, but they will impact local travel times.

  • Burleigh Heads Bus Stop Closure: Commuters are advised that the bus stop on the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh Heads (Stop ID 321299) is closed as of 8:00 PM last night and will remain closed until March. Passengers for routes 700, 753, 754, 757, and 765 should use the temporary stop located near Memorial Park, approximately 250 meters away.
  • Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3: Major construction continues along the Gold Coast Highway between Miami and Burleigh Heads. Motorists should expect lane reductions and a strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit through work zones. Traffic controllers are on-site to manage pedestrian movements near the construction corridor.
  • Helensvale Road Closures: Work on the Town Centre Drive bridge continues. Buckler Drive is currently closed to all traffic between Cyan Street and the Town Centre Drive roundabout to facilitate bridge construction for the Coomera Connector.
  • Arundel Ramp Closures: The eastbound access ramp to Smith Street from the Smith Street Motorway remains closed for planned roadworks. Detours are in place via Napper Road.

Public Health Advisories

Gold Coast Health has issued alerts regarding communicable diseases currently circulating in the community. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and ensure their vaccinations are up to date.

  • Measles Alert: Following a confirmed case in the region, health officials are reminding the public that measles is highly infectious. Anyone who has not been fully vaccinated and develops a fever and a cough or runny nose, followed by a red blotchy rash, should seek medical advice.
  • Whooping Cough (Pertussis): A continued spike in whooping cough cases has been recorded across the Gold Coast. Expectant parents and those in close contact with infants are strongly encouraged to receive their booster shots to prevent further transmission.

Community Engagement and Consultation

The City of Gold Coast invites residents to participate in several active public consultation periods to help shape the future of the city.

  • 2026-27 City Budget: Residents are encouraged to "Have Your Say" on the upcoming municipal budget. Feedback is being sought on service priorities and infrastructure investment for the next financial year.
  • Burleigh Heads Foreshore Revitalisation: Plans for the upgrades to the Burleigh Heads seawall and parkland facilities are currently open for review. Community members can submit their comments on the proposed design and amenities through the official city portal.

Beach Safety and Lifeguard Patrols

Following a record-breaking summer season with over 4 million beach visits, City Lifeguards remain on high alert. Professional patrols are active across all major beaches today from 8:00 AM. Swimmers are reminded to only swim between the red and yellow flags and to check local signage for stinger warnings and surf conditions.
