City Notices: Essential Infrastructure and Holiday Program Updates

Public Transport and Road Closures
Residents and visitors are advised of several significant transport disruptions across the Gold Coast active on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, primarily due to ongoing infrastructure projects and holiday maintenance.
- Gold Coast Highway (Burleigh Heads): As part of the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 construction, the bus stop at Second Avenue (Stop ID 300175) remains closed through until 27 April 2026. Commuters are advised to utilize the alternative stop at Burleigh Heads Primary School (Stop ID 300176), located approximately 450 meters away.
- Light Rail Precinct Works: Temporary and permanent stop closures continue along the Gold Coast Highway corridor. Multiple routes, including the 700, 753, and 777, are operating with diversions. Passengers should allow for additional travel time when navigating the Burleigh Heads and Miami sectors.
- Major Rail Network Upgrades: A major track closure is in effect from 3 April to 26 April 2026 to facilitate the installation of new digital signaling and Cross River Rail integration. On Wednesday, 8 April, timetable changes are active across all lines. Dedicated rail replacement buses are operating between Northgate and Bowen Hills, and significantly longer journey times are expected for those traveling toward Brisbane.
Infrastructure and Maintenance Schedule
The City of Gold Coast is continuing its 2025-26 Annual Road Rehabilitation Program. Motorists should be aware of potential delays and partial closures in the following locations:
- Main Beach: Maintenance works are scheduled for Macarthur Parade and Main Beach Parade. While full road closures are not expected, traffic controllers will be on-site to manage flow during peak hours.
- Mudgeeraba: Pavement rehabilitation is ongoing on Berrigans Road. Residents are encouraged to follow posted signage and expect minor noise disruptions between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Community Events and Notices
The City’s holiday calendar is in full swing for Wednesday, 8 April 2026, with several public services and community events taking place:
- School Holiday Sailing Program: This official City-sponsored outdoor activity is being held today at Oxenford Lake. Families are reminded that the 3-hour sessions hosted by the Southport Yacht Club are fully booked, and increased pedestrian traffic is expected around the lake precinct.
- Kari Foundation Unity Day: A significant community celebration of diversity and culture is scheduled for today. Public facilities near the event site may experience higher-than-usual demand.
- Kirra Eagle Reinstallation: Following its recent arrival back on the Gold Coast on 31 March, preliminary site works are underway at Kirra Hill for the reinstallation of the iconic sculpture. Access to certain lookout points may be restricted during this period.
