City Notices: Essential Infrastructure Updates and Public Health Advisories

Infrastructure and Road Disruptions
The City of Gold Coast has issued several notices regarding major transport disruptions effective this Saturday, 28 March 2026. Residents and visitors are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid significant delays.
- Coolangatta: A full road closure is in effect at 271 Boundary Street and Petrie Street, between Ward and Eden Avenue. This closure commences at 2:00 AM on Saturday, 28 March, to facilitate the installation of a tower crane and is expected to remain in place through Tuesday. Local traffic access only is permitted.
- Gold Coast Highway (Miami to Burleigh Heads): Ongoing Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 works continue to impact the highway. Traffic is restricted to a single lane in both directions from Dawn Parade to West Burleigh Road. A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit remains in place through the construction zone.
- Hinterland Access: Motorists traveling on Gold Coast-Springbrook Road should expect stop/slow traffic control at approximately 28 different sites between Neranwood and Pine Creek Road due to ongoing landslip remediation.
Public Health and Environmental Alerts
Regional health authorities and City environmental teams have active advisories in place for the weekend to ensure community safety.
- Communicable Disease Vigilance: Queensland Health continues to monitor community transmission of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Measles. Residents are urged to verify their vaccination status and contact health services via phone before visiting clinics if symptoms such as a persistent cough or red rash develop.
- Stormwater and Swimming Advisory: Following recent rainfall, a standing advisory remains in effect regarding local waterways. Residents are advised to avoid swimming in coastal beaches for at least 24 hours after heavy rain, and in rivers, lakes, or estuaries for up to three days. Elevated bacterial levels in runoff can increase the risk of illness.
- Mosquito Management: Specialized City teams have intensified treatments in salt marsh environments and low-lying habitats. Property owners are requested to assist by removing any standing water from containers or gutters on their premises.
Public Facilities and Community Notices
Important updates regarding local parks and major community events taking place this weekend:
- Australian Surf Life Saving Championships: Known as 'The Aussies,' this major event is active today, 28 March. Expect increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic around competition hubs.
- Elanora Linkage Park: This facility remains fully closed to the public as crews continue critical landslip repairs and stormwater infrastructure upgrades. These safety works are scheduled to continue through mid-year.
- Development Notification: A public notification period has commenced for a proposed industrial subdivision at 95 Quinns Hill Road East, Stapylton. Formal submissions regarding this application are open until 21 April 2026.
