Traffic and Infrastructure Projects

Major roadworks and bridge maintenance are impacting travel in several key corridors today, Tuesday, 10 February 2026. The City and State authorities have issued the following traffic notices. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes or allow extra travel time where delays are expected.

  • Helensvale Bridge Closure: Buckler Drive between Cyan Street and the Town Centre Drive roundabout remains closed to all traffic. This closure is necessary for planned roadworks on the Town Centre Drive bridge. Local detours are signposted.
  • Gold Coast Highway (Mermaid Beach): Sections of the Gold Coast Highway near Nobby Beach and Mermaid Beach are closed to all traffic due to critical infrastructure works. Heavy congestion is expected on surrounding arterial roads.
  • Arundel Access Restrictions: The eastbound access ramp to Smith Street from the Smith Street Motorway is currently closed for planned maintenance and upgrades.

Public Transport Service Changes

Translink has issued alerts for both rail and bus commuters as the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 construction progresses through its complex southern sections.

  • Gold Coast Rail Line: A temporary train timetable is in effect for all services between Ormeau and Varsity Lakes. These adjustments are scheduled to continue through February 13, 2026. Passengers are encouraged to check the journey planner for updated departure times.
  • Bus Stop Closures: Several bus stops along the Gold Coast Highway in Burleigh Heads and Miami have been temporarily closed to facilitate track work. Specifically, the Burleigh Heads (Stop ID 321299), Hythe Street, and Third Avenue stops are closed. Temporary replacement stops are situated approximately 150 to 250 meters away from the original locations.
