Emergency Alert: Severe Weather and Flash Flooding Warning

The City of Gold Coast and the Bureau of Meteorology have issued an updated weather advisory for Sunday, 15 February 2026. Following the heavy rainfall event that commenced on 12 February, residents are advised to remain on high alert. Current forecasts for Sunday indicate an additional 41mm of rainfall, which may trigger renewed flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas. The City Dashboard remains the central point for real-time information regarding river heights and emergency warnings.

  • Action Required: Residents should continue to monitor the Gold Coast Disaster and Emergency Dashboard. If your property is prone to flooding, ensure your household emergency plan is ready.
  • Safety Reminder: Never drive, walk, or ride through floodwaters. If it is flooded, forget it.

Public Health Advisory: Waterway Closures

City health authorities have issued a formal notice regarding recreational water quality following recent storm activity. A sewage overflow has been reported, potentially impacting the northern Gold Coast waterways. A temporary closure of swimming areas is in effect through Sunday, 15 February, until 5:00 PM.

  • Affected Areas: Paradise Point (including the swimming enclosure), Hollywell, and Runaway Bay.
  • Precautionary Measures: Avoid all contact with the water in these suburbs. As a general rule, residents are advised to avoid swimming at open beaches for at least 24 hours after heavy rain, and for three days in estuarine and river locations due to stormwater runoff pollution.

Road Infrastructure and Traffic Notices

Several significant road closures and works are active this Sunday to facilitate essential infrastructure upgrades and storm recovery. Motorists should expect delays and plan alternative routes.

  • Goodwin Terrace: Partial closures commence today, 15 February, at 6:00 AM to facilitate foreshore revitalisation works.
  • Grant Avenue, Hope Island: Full road closure remains in place for sewer pipework installation. This closure is expected to continue through early March.
  • Palm Beach and Tugun: Ongoing construction associated with the M1 upgrade continues to impact Nineteenth Avenue and Dogwood Drive. Speed restrictions and partial lane closures are in effect 24/7.
  • Kristins Lane, Upper Coomera: Partial closures for water and stormwater service installations are active between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM.
