Public Health Alert: Measles Exposure Localities

The Gold Coast Public Health Unit (GCPHU) has issued an urgent health alert following confirmed cases of measles in the region. Residents and visitors who were present at high-traffic locations during March are advised to remain vigilant. Due to the 18-day incubation period, individuals who visited the following sites should monitor for symptoms through to mid-April:

  • RACV Royal Pines Resort (Tees' Clubhouse), Benowa: Saturday 7 March, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • Hillsong Church Gold Coast: Sunday 8 March, 5:15 pm – 8:30 pm
  • Robina Town Centre (including Woolworths): Monday 9 March and Sunday 22 March (various times)
  • Mudgee Bah Cafe, Mudgeeraba: Sunday 22 March, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm

Initial symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, and sore eyes, followed by a characteristic red spotty rash. Health officials urge anyone developing these symptoms to contact their GP or 13 HEALTH immediately. It is critical to phone ahead before visiting any medical practice or emergency department to ensure precautions are taken to protect other patients.

Good Friday Waste and Facility Operations

The City of Gold Coast has confirmed that residential waste, recycling, and green organics collection services will proceed as scheduled on Friday, 3 April. Residents whose bins are normally collected on Fridays are requested to place them kerbside the night before to avoid missed collections.

Most City-operated facilities, including all branch libraries, community centers, and administrative offices, will be closed today for the Good Friday public holiday. Major waste and recycling centers will remain open, though residents are encouraged to check the City’s digital dashboard for any capacity-related updates. While most retail shops are closed due to trading regulations, exempt businesses such as pharmacies and service stations may operate with varied hours.

Infrastructure and Road Maintenance Notice

Work continues under the 2025–26 Annual Road Rehabilitation Program. While major construction is paused for the public holiday, existing traffic management and partial closures remain in place at several priority sites. Motorists should exercise caution and follow all posted signage in the following areas:

  • Surfers Paradise: Pavement rehabilitation and kerb works on Cypress Avenue.
  • Robina: Ongoing maintenance on Cheltenham Drive and sections of Robina Parkway.
  • Coolangatta: Safety improvements and road resealing on Dutton Street and Griffith Street.

Community Events and Holiday Activities

Despite the public holiday closures, several outdoor activities remain available for the community. The Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets will operate this evening from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, providing a family-friendly shopping experience. Additionally, the DinoFest outdoor prehistoric exhibit is active today, featuring interactive life-sized dinosaurs and educational activities for children.
