Gold Coast Commute Update: Tuesday, 10 February 2026

Good morning, Gold Coast. As you prepare for your Tuesday commute, several significant infrastructure projects and planned maintenance activities are set to impact travel times across the city. While the M1 Pacific Motorway is currently flowing well through the recently completed upgrade sections, local arterial roads and the public transport network are experiencing disruptions that will require extra travel time this morning.

Public Transport Alerts: Rail and Bus Disruptions

The most substantial impact for public transport users today is on the Gold Coast rail line. Translink has confirmed that temporary train timetable changes remain in effect for all services between Ormeau and Varsity Lakes. These adjustments, which began earlier this month, are scheduled to continue through Friday, 13 February 2026. Commuters should expect slightly adjusted departure times and are advised to check the Translink journey planner before heading to the platform to avoid extended wait times.

  • Rail Timetable: Adjusted services between Ormeau and Varsity Lakes stations.
  • Helensvale Bus Diversions: Bus routes that typically use the Buckler Drive bridge are currently being diverted due to a total road closure in that sector.
  • Late-Night Service: Be aware that late-night track closures are scheduled for later this week; however, daytime rail services today will operate under the modified timetable.

Major Roadworks and Local Closures

Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) reports indicate several total closures and lane restrictions that will affect morning and afternoon peaks:

  • Tugun Bypass (Exit 95): The exit from the Tugun Bypass to the Gold Coast Highway and Tugun Currumbin Road is closed to all traffic due to planned roadworks. Detours are in place, but motorists heading toward the airport or the New South Wales border should allow an additional 20 minutes.
  • Helensvale: Buckler Drive remains closed to all traffic between Cyan Street and the Town Centre Drive roundabout. The Town Centre Drive bridge is also inaccessible as part of the Coomera Connector Stage 1 Central works. Motorists are urged to use Siganto Drive or the M1 as alternative routes.
  • Arundel: The eastbound access ramp to Smith Street from the Smith Street Motorway remains closed. This is causing intermittent congestion on nearby service roads and the Smith Street/Olsen Avenue intersection.
  • Miami and Burleigh Heads: Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 construction is in a high-activity phase. Expect single-lane arrangements in both directions along the Gold Coast Highway between Miami and North Burleigh.

Commuter Advice

If your morning route involves the Smith Street Motorway or the Gold Coast Highway through the southern suburbs, we recommend leaving 15 to 20 minutes earlier than usual. For those using the rail network, ensure you are referencing the "Temporary Timetable" rather than the standard schedule. Stay safe on the roads and enjoy your Tuesday.
