Official City Notice: Southport Road Closures and 2026-27 Budget Consultation

Community Consultation: Shaping the 2026-27 City Budget
The City of Gold Coast is currently seeking formal community feedback on the proposed 2026-27 City Budget. This annual plan outlines critical investments in local services, infrastructure projects, and transport initiatives designed to support the city's growth. Mayor Tom Tate has encouraged all residents to participate in the survey to identify priority areas for funding, including public safety, road networks, and recreational spaces. The consultation period remains active today, Sunday, 1 February 2026, and will conclude on 16 February 2026. Submissions can be made through the official 'Have Your Say' online portal or at local city libraries.
Significant Infrastructure and Road Closures
Several major traffic changes and infrastructure closures are in effect as of today. Motorists and residents should take note of the following official alerts:
- Southport: A full closure of Knowledge Street commences today, 1 February, to facilitate essential construction works. This closure is scheduled to remain in place through mid-February. Local diversions are active, and motorists are advised to plan for minor delays.
- Helensvale: Buckler Drive remains closed to all traffic between Cyan Street and the Town Centre Drive roundabout due to ongoing bridge works. This is part of a planned roadworks program aimed at improving long-term structural safety.
- Palm Beach to Tugun: Work continues on the M1 Upgrade Project (Package C). Residents in these areas should expect multiple long-term impacts, including intermittent lane closures and construction activity surrounding the Pacific Motorway and adjacent service roads.
- Public Transport: Multiple bus stops along the Gold Coast Highway remain temporarily closed due to Light Rail Stage 3 construction. Impacted locations include stops near Annette Kellerman Park and the Nobby Beach shopping precinct.
Public Health Advisory: Measles and Pertussis Alert
Queensland Health and the Gold Coast Public Health Unit have maintained a high-alert status following the reporting of several measles cases in the region this year. Residents are urged to ensure their vaccinations are up to date, particularly those who have recently traveled internationally. Symptoms including high fever, cough, and a blotchy rash should be reported to a medical professional immediately. Additionally, health officials continue to monitor a spike in Pertussis (whooping cough) cases. Vaccination is strongly recommended for pregnant women and those in close contact with infants to prevent further community transmission.
Recreation and Parks Maintenance
The Gold Coast Waterways Authority reminds the public that the Sand Bypass System (SBS) jetty at Doug Jennings Park remains closed to all public access. This closure is necessary for essential maintenance and ongoing sand pumping operations required to maintain safe navigation through the Seaway. Furthermore, several sports fields, including those at Coomera Sports Park, are currently closed for seasonal renovation. These fields are expected to reopen in early March to ensure optimal playing conditions for the upcoming winter sport season.
