Public Health and Environmental Alerts

Queensland Health and City environmental services have maintained several active advisories for the Gold Coast region this Wednesday, 25 March 2026. Residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant regarding communicable diseases, specifically Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Measles. Health authorities recommend verifying vaccination status and contacting medical services via phone if symptoms such as a high fever or persistent, heavy coughing develop.

Additionally, a stormwater advisory remains in effect following recent seasonal rainfall. The City strongly advises against swimming in coastal beaches for at least 24 hours, and in rivers, lakes, or estuaries for up to 72 hours. Elevated bacterial levels in runoff can significantly increase the risk of infection. Mosquito management programs have also been intensified in salt marsh and low-lying environments; property owners are requested to assist by removing any standing water from containers or gutters to mitigate breeding risks.

Transport and Infrastructure Updates

Significant construction and maintenance activities continue across the city’s road network today. Commuters are advised to plan for the following disruptions:

  • Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3: Intensive works remain active between Miami and Burleigh Heads. The Gold Coast Highway is restricted to a single lane in both directions from Dawn Parade to West Burleigh Road. A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit is in place through this 6.7-kilometre corridor.
  • Coomera Connector (Stage 1): The bridge overpass at Ridgevale Drive remains fully closed as part of the 2026 bridge replacement program. Motorists are advised to continue using posted detours via the Smith Street Motorway.
  • Hinterland Road Remediation: Stop/slow traffic control is active at 28 separate sites along the Gold Coast-Springbrook Road for reconstruction and landslip repairs. Commuters should expect intermittent delays of approximately 10 minutes per site.
  • Mudgeeraba Pavement Works: Berrigans Road remains closed to through traffic between Gold Coast-Springbrook Road and Mark Way for essential pavement rehabilitation.
  • Public Transport: The temporary bus stop closure on Warrungen Way in Ashmore remains in effect today. Additionally, travelers are reminded to check local signage for minor route adjustments near coastal event hubs.

Parks and Community Facilities

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, colloquially known as "The Aussies," continue today with major activity centered around coastal competition hubs. Residents should expect increased pedestrian activity and minor local traffic changes in these areas. In the hinterland, planned maintenance works begin today on walking tracks within Springbrook National Park, with works expected to continue through early May. Mount Barney National Park also remains under a temporary closure notice for planned burns scheduled through 26 March.

In the southern suburbs, Elanora Linkage Park remains fully closed to the public as crews conduct critical landslip repairs and stormwater infrastructure upgrades. These safety works are expected to continue through mid-year.
