Severe Weather and Flash Flooding Warning

The City of Gold Coast has issued a critical advisory for Saturday, 14 February 2026, regarding potential flash flooding and hazardous weather conditions. Following heavy rainfall that recorded up to 125mm in areas such as Tallai and Burleigh Waters over the past 24 hours, residents are urged to remain vigilant. Intense rainfall is forecast to continue through the weekend, increasing the risk of localized flooding in urban and low-lying areas. As of this morning, at least 11 local roads have been closed due to water over the pavement. The City maintains a strict 'If it’s flooded, forget it' policy; motorists are warned never to drive, walk, or ride through floodwaters.

  • Sandbag stations have concluded operations for this event after distributing over 1,000 bags.
  • The Gold Coast Disaster and Emergency Dashboard remains the primary source for real-time road closure updates.
  • Contact the SES on 132 500 for non-life-threatening flood and storm assistance.

Beach Safety and Major Event Impacts

Despite the current weather warnings, major surf sports events including the Shaw and Partners Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic and the 2026 World Club Championship at Snapper Rocks are currently proceeding. However, City Lifeguards are monitoring surf conditions closely and may close beaches at short notice if conditions become too dangerous. Participants and spectators are reminded to only swim between the red and yellow flags and to follow all directions from on-duty lifeguards. Due to rapid runoff from recent rainfall, water quality in creeks and estuaries may be compromised; avoid swimming in these areas for at least 48 hours after heavy rain.

Public Consultation: 2026-27 City Budget

The City of Gold Coast reminds all residents that the window for community feedback on the 2026-27 City Budget is drawing to a close. This annual plan dictates the funding for essential services, infrastructure, and community projects. Residents have until Monday, 16 February 2026, to submit their views on the City’s spending priorities via the official 'Have Your Say' portal.

Documentation is available for inspection at the following City libraries until 2 March 2026:

  • Broadbeach Library

Administrative Update: Rates and Water Notices

Residents are advised that as of January 2026, a $2.50 fee now applies to each rates and water bill issued via physical mail. To avoid this charge, the City encourages account holders to register for 'My Account' to receive digital PDF notices via email. This transition is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to reducing paper waste and administrative costs.
