Easter Saturday Holiday Services

As the Gold Coast observes the Easter Saturday public holiday on 4 April 2026, residents and visitors are advised of several changes to municipal services and significant impacts on the transport network. This notice summarizes essential information regarding waste collection, facility closures, and ongoing infrastructure projects to ensure a safe and organized long weekend.

Waste and Recycling Collections

City of Gold Coast waste and recycling collection services will operate as usual throughout the Easter long weekend. Residents whose bin day falls on Saturday, 4 April, are advised to place their bins on the kerbside the night before to ensure collection. Please ensure bins are at least 30 centimeters apart and placed away from obstructions such as parked cars or low-hanging trees. Waste and recycling centers remain open, though high volumes are expected.

Major Road and Transport Disruptions

Significant roadworks and infrastructure projects will continue to impact travel times across the city. Public service announcements remain in place for the following high-traffic corridors:

  • Gold Coast Highway (Miami to Burleigh): Ongoing construction for Light Rail Stage 3 has reduced the highway to a single lane in both directions between Dawn Parade and George Street East. A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit is in effect.
  • Coomera & Helensvale: The Ridgevale Drive bridge overpass remains fully closed for the 2026 bridge replacement program. Motorists are directed to use the Smith Street Motorway as a detour.
  • Arundel: The eastbound access ramp to Smith Street from the Smith Street Motorway is closed for planned road rehabilitation.
  • Suburban Closures: Turpin Road in Labrador (between First and Fourth Avenue) and Berrigans Road in Mudgeeraba (between Gold Coast-Springbrook Road and Mark Way) remain closed to through traffic.

Additionally, a major rail closure is active. Buses will replace all trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road to facilitate the Faster Rail upgrades. Commuters should allow for significantly longer journey times when traveling north.

Library and Community Facility Closures

All City of Gold Coast library branches and community centers are closed for the duration of the Easter long weekend, from Friday, 3 April, through Monday, 6 April. While physical locations are closed, the eLibrary remains accessible 24/7 for digital loans. Facilities will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, 7 April.

Beach Safety Advisory

With large crowds expected, Surf Life Saving authorities have issued a public safety warning. Lifeguard patrols are active at 42 beaches across the city from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Visitors are urged to swim only between the red and yellow flags and to avoid unpatrolled or secluded coastal locations, where the risk of drowning significantly increases during holiday periods.
