Official City Roundup: Tuesday, 24 March 2026

The City of Gold Coast has issued the following public notices and service announcements effective for Tuesday, 24 March 2026. Residents and visitors are encouraged to review these updates to ensure compliance with temporary regulations and to minimize travel delays across the region.

Major Transport and Roadway Disruptions

Significant roadwork and infrastructure projects are active today. Commuters should allow for additional travel time in the following areas:

  • Labrador: A full road closure is in effect on Turpin Road between First Avenue and Fourth Avenue. This closure is necessary for essential road maintenance and is expected to remain in place through April 24.
  • Southport: Nerang Street is subject to a full road closure from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM today to facilitate scheduled municipal works. Local traffic access will be maintained where safe.
  • Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3: Construction intensive works continue between Miami and Burleigh Heads. The Gold Coast Highway remains restricted to a single lane in both directions from Dawn Parade to West Burleigh Road. A strictly enforced 40km/h speed limit is in effect through the corridor.
  • Coomera Connector: The bridge overpass at Ridgevale Drive remains fully closed to all traffic as part of the ongoing 2026 bridge replacement program. Detours are active via the Smith Street Motorway.

Public Health and Environmental Advisories

Health authorities have issued the following active advisories for the Gold Coast region:

  • Stormwater and Swimming Safety: Following recent heavy rainfall, the City advises residents and visitors to avoid swimming in coastal beaches for at least 24 hours. A persistent advisory remains for rivers, lakes, and estuaries, where swimming should be avoided for up to three days due to increased bacterial levels in stormwater runoff.
  • Communicable Disease Vigilance: Queensland Health continues to monitor community transmission of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Measles. Residents are urged to verify their vaccination status. If symptoms such as a high fever or persistent cough develop, please contact health services by phone before visiting a clinic in person.
  • Soil Safety: Due to ongoing wet conditions, a warning regarding Melioidosis is in place. Residents are advised to wear protective footwear and gloves when working with soil or in muddy areas.

Essential Utility Works

Maintenance on the city’s water and sewer networks may impact local services today:

  • Carrara: Sewer main replacement works are ongoing at Palm Meadows Drive and Meadowview Drive. Residents may notice heavy machinery and intermittent service interruptions through June.

Council Meetings and Public Governance

Two key committee meetings are scheduled for today, Tuesday, 24 March, at the City Chambers:

  • Transport & Infrastructure (T&I) Committee: Convening to discuss regional transit upgrades and the 2026 road maintenance schedule.
  • Water, Waste & Energy (WW&E) Committee: Meeting to review utility infrastructure performance and environmental sustainability initiatives.
