Infrastructure and Public Transport Updates

The City of Gold Coast and Translink have announced overnight service disruptions along the Gold Coast Highway to accommodate ongoing light rail construction. Starting Sunday, 8 February 2026, the bus stop at Anzac Parade in Burleigh Heads will be closed nightly from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM. This closure is scheduled to remain in effect until Friday, 13 February. Commuters using routes 700 and 765 are advised to use alternative stops as designated by on-site signage. Service users are encouraged to allow extra travel time for journeys through the southern corridor during these hours.

Public Consultation: Infrastructure Planning

Residents are reminded that the public consultation period for the proposed Interim Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) Amendment is currently active. This city-wide notice concerns the planning and timing of future trunk infrastructure, including demand projections through 2041. The amendment is available for inspection at City customer service centres in Broadbeach, Elanora, Helensvale, Nerang, Southport, and Upper Coomera. The City must consider every properly made submission it receives; the deadline for formal feedback is 2 March 2026.

Park and Recreational Facility Maintenance

Several sports fields across the region remain closed for essential renovation and maintenance work to ensure the longevity of the city's green spaces. The following field closures are in effect for Sunday, 8 February:

  • Cos Zantiotis Park: Touch Football fields 1 through 8 are currently closed and are expected to reopen on 23 February 2026.
  • Coomera Sports Park: Touch Football fields 1 through 7 remain offline for maintenance, with a scheduled reopening date of 2 March 2026.

In addition to local parks, major attractions have updated their maintenance schedules. At Dreamworld, the Sky Voyager attraction is currently closed for an extended maintenance period and is not expected to return to service until late March. Visitors are also reminded that the Motocoaster ride has been permanently retired as of early February.

Health Advisories

Gold Coast Health continues to monitor community health risks. Residents are urged to remain vigilant regarding infectious diseases currently circulating in the region. A standing alert for Measles remains in place following cases identified earlier this year. Furthermore, health officials advise that Whooping Cough (Pertussis) cases remain elevated across the state. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to ensure vaccinations are up to date, particularly for children and those in frequent contact with infants or pregnant women.

Major Event Wrap-up and Lost Property

The AACTA Festival concludes today at HOTA (Home of the Arts). Residents should expect higher than usual pedestrian traffic and limited parking availability in the Evandale precinct throughout the evening. Additionally, attendees of Saturday's music festival at Southport Sharks can collect lost property today between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the dedicated Info Tent located at the festival box office. Unclaimed items will be transferred to the venue's main reception from Monday morning.
