Public Health: Mosquito and Midge Control Operations

The City of Gold Coast has scheduled mosquito and biting midge management activities for the early hours of Thursday, 2 April 2026. Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) misting and fogging operations will take place between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM, focusing on residential and marshland interface areas in Merrimac and Upper Coomera. These efforts aim to reduce adult mosquito and midge populations following recent environmental conditions. Residents in these suburbs are advised that while the misting is safe, those with respiratory sensitivities may prefer to remain indoors with windows closed during the treatment window. All operations remain subject to favorable weather conditions.

Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3: Service Impacts

As construction of the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 moves toward its final phases, several transit changes remain in effect this Thursday. Public transport users should note that the bus stops at Burleigh Heads Primary School (Stop ID 300176) and on the Gold Coast Highway at Third Avenue (Stop ID 300174) remain closed as part of ongoing infrastructure integration. Passengers for Route 700 and 765 are directed to temporary stops located near The Esplanade and McDonald’s respectively. In the northern section of the project, crews are currently completing finishing works, including line marking and handrail installation at new pedestrian crossings, which may cause minor localized foot traffic diversions.

Health Advisory: Measles Symptoms Monitoring

The Gold Coast Public Health Unit continues to urge residents and visitors to monitor for symptoms of measles following a confirmed alert issued late last month. Individuals who visited high-traffic locations including Robina Town Centre, Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre, or the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Benowa during late March should remain vigilant for fever, cough, and a red spotty rash. The monitoring period for these exposures remains active through mid-April. If symptoms develop, health officials advise calling your GP or 13 HEALTH in advance to prevent further community transmission.

City Business and Council Meetings

A formal Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 2 April 2026, where representatives will discuss upcoming infrastructure priorities and the 2026-27 city contracting plan. Additionally, the City has issued a final reminder for the tender closing for office suite leases within the Corporate Centre Precinct in Bundall. Submissions for this tender (Suite 1C and Level 6, Wyndham Building) must be received by 10:00 AM AEST on Thursday. Further details regarding city tenders, including the upcoming sale of the former Nerang Library site, are available through the official City of Gold Coast procurement portal.

Roadworks and Traffic Conditions

Motorists are advised of active road closures and planned works impacting local travel. The Gold Coast Highway service road at Mermaid Beach remains closed to all traffic for essential roadworks. Furthermore, the Smith Street Off Ramp in Arundel continues to experience restricted access due to planned pavement upgrades. Commuters are encouraged to utilize the QLDTraffic app for real-time updates and to allow extra travel time through these precincts.
