Official City Roundup: Community Consultation and Essential Works

As the Gold Coast enters the first week of February, the City Council has issued several critical notices regarding infrastructure planning, public transport disruptions, and community feedback opportunities. Residents and commuters are encouraged to stay informed about these updates to ensure a smooth transition through the week's scheduled works and consultation periods.

Planning and Community Consultation

Starting today, Tuesday, 3 February 2026, the City of Gold Coast has officially opened the public consultation period for the proposed Interim Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) Amendment. This amendment aims to update assumptions regarding the type, scale, and location of future development and trunk infrastructure across the city. The consultation will run until 2 March 2026. During this time, residents can view documents at major customer service centers, including the Broadbeach, Helensvale, and Southport libraries, or submit feedback via the City's 'Have Your Say' portal.

Additionally, the 2026-27 City Budget survey remains open until 16 February. Mayor Tom Tate has invited all residents to participate in this survey to help prioritize investment in local amenities, transport, and community safety. Your input will directly influence the final budget allocation for the upcoming financial year.

Transport and Road Infrastructure

Significant roadworks continue as part of the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 project and general network upgrades. Motorists and transit users should be aware of the following active conditions:

  • Helensvale Bridge: Buckler Drive, between Cyan Street and the Town Centre Drive roundabout, remains closed to all traffic for bridge maintenance.
  • Gold Coast Highway: Ongoing track and utility works between Miami and Burleigh Heads are causing single-lane closures. Residents in these areas may experience moderate noise and vibration during night-time concrete pours.
  • Ormeau: Prairie Road remains under a full closure until Thursday, 5 February, to facilitate site access for the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program facility.
  • Arundel: The eastbound access ramp to Smith Street from the Smith Street Motorway remains closed for planned roadworks.

Regarding public transport, the bus stop at Nobby Beach shops (Stop ID 300340) is scheduled to reopen today. however, several stops along the Gold Coast Highway at Annette Kellerman Park, Hythe Street, and Third Avenue remain closed due to light rail construction. Temporary stops are located within 150 to 250 meters of original locations.

Public Health and Safety

Queensland Health has issued a general advisory for the Gold Coast region regarding soil-borne diseases. Following recent wet weather, residents are urged to take precautions against Melioidosis when gardening or cleaning up outdoor areas. Recommendations include wearing waterproof gloves and boots and covering any open wounds to prevent contact with soil or muddy water. For those visiting local theme parks, note that Dreamworld’s Tail Spin attraction is currently closed for scheduled maintenance until 5 February, and the Motocoaster has officially reached its permanent retirement as of yesterday.
