Damp Conditions for Valentine’s Celebrations

Gold Coast residents and visitors planning outdoor romantic gestures this Valentine’s Day should prepare for a wet and windy Saturday. Forecast data for February 14, 2026, indicates that a persistent ridge of high pressure, combined with a moist southeasterly air stream, will bring overcast skies and frequent showers across the region. While temperatures remain mild, the consistent precipitation and brisk coastal winds will likely dictate indoor plans for many couples today.

Morning and Afternoon: Peak Precipitation

The first half of the day carries the highest risk of rainfall. According to meteorological predictions, the morning and early afternoon will see a very high chance of rain—estimated at approximately 80 to 90 percent. Rainfall totals are expected to sit between 5mm and 10mm, though localized heavier bursts are possible in some suburbs. Temperatures will stay within a narrow, humid range, with a projected minimum of 21°C and a daytime maximum reaching approximately 24°C to 26°C. The humidity remains high at roughly 73%, making the air feel slightly warmer than the mercury suggests.

  • Morning: Overcast with frequent light to moderate rain showers. Southeast winds building.
  • Afternoon: Continued cloud cover with passing showers. Temperatures peaking near 25°C.
  • Evening: Showers becoming more isolated, though the risk of light rain remains.

Evening Outlook and Humidity

As we transition into the evening, the intensity of the showers is expected to ease slightly, though the sky will remain largely overcast. Those heading out for dinner should still carry an umbrella, as light rain is predicted to persist throughout the night with a 45% chance of precipitation. The minimum overnight temperature will hover around 21°C. Despite the cloud cover, the UV index is rated as moderate to high, so sun protection is still advised during the daylight hours when the sun manages to break through the cloud deck.

Marine and Wind Alerts

A significant feature of today’s weather is the strengthening southeasterly wind. Sustained speeds are expected between 20 and 30 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 45 km/h along the immediate coastline. For those on the water, a cautious approach is required. In the Gold Coast waters, southeasterly winds of 15 to 25 knots are forecast, potentially reaching 30 knots offshore. Seas are expected to rise between 1.5 and 2.5 metres, making conditions hazardous for small craft. Swell conditions remain significant, with southerly swells of 1.5 to 2 metres tending southeasterly throughout the day.
